As far as sockets go, I would be happy to offer the material from my netowrk programming tutorial as a basis for further development. See http://www.holdenweb.com/linuxworld/. There's also some material in the Sockets HowTo at http://www.amk.ca/python/howto/sockets/ that could be pressed into service.
A generous offer, thanks! Both links look like they could provide a pretty substantial basis for a tutorial here. I've added this page: http://pytut.infogami.com/advanced_sockets , as a placeholder containing the links you mention. Maybe someone will build on it.
